Our First Visitor at Farditch Farm

Our first month of being officially open has been one to remember! We’re still in a state of shock at how quickly it’s come around since we started converting the barn at Farditch Farm in Chelmorton!

What we can say with confidence, is that our guests so far have loved what we’ve done at Farditch!

Farditch Farm Chelmorton
At the start of August, Cheryl was part of a large group staying in our 10 person Caxterway cottage, consisting of 8 adults and 2 children. Here’s what she had to say about her stay with us:

“ The house is so spacious that there is plenty of room for everyone to both have their own privacy and enjoy well-designed communal areas too. We enjoyed family meals together on the huge dining table and outside on the picnic tables when we had a BBQ. The large entrance hall way is perfect for storing all the usual paraphernalia (walking boots / waterproofs etc) of a big family without cluttering the living room. The bedrooms are large and the children, in particular, enjoyed having a tv in each bedroom. The ratio of bathrooms to bedrooms worked well. Having one downstairs bedroom also gave additional privacy, which was a bonus.”

Plenty of Beautiful Countryside

“The house is very well equipped and the quality of the furnishing is good. We always like to stay in a holiday home that is at least as good as our own and we were not disappointed here.  As the first guests to stay in Caxterway, we expected a few minor glitches as part of the ‘shakedown’ but Sue was able to respond promptly and helpfully addressed our concerns.

There is plenty to do in the beautiful countryside nearby. We enjoyed numerous walks and cycle rides, some directly from the farm. On the one wet day, we visited nearby caves. Caxterway is well located for many of the popular walking trails; we visited Castleton / Mam Tor, Dove Dale, Thor’s Cave, Matlock Bath and also cycled the Monsal Trail.”

Looking to Return in the Future

“ There are supermarkets nearby but we found that three, regularly-spaced supermarket deliveries kept our cupboards well stocked, supplemented by occasional take-away deliveries and meals out. Buxton is close by and has a good range of restaurants and we also visited the pub in the village. The kitchen facilities are perfectly adequate for catering for large numbers in both storage and utensils (large cooking range, big saucepans etc).

The children enjoyed having safe space to play outside the house and there was plenty of parking space for our cars. For much of the time we had the whole area to ourselves but when there were guests staying in the other parts of the barn, we were not really aware that they were there.

We would like to return to Caxterway in the future and are planning a holiday for a larger family group when we would hope to use all three homes within the barn. The development is well-designed, with interconnecting double doors to allow free flow between the separate units, if required. Each unit is entirely self-contained but has large open areas to accommodate bigger groups at times. The flexibility of various combinations is useful and all units are furnished to the same good standard. We hope to return soon!”
